Insect Factory is Silver Spring guitarist Jeff Barsky. By day, Mr. Barsky is a mild-mannered fourth grade teacher. But come nightfall, he metamorphoses into an axe-wielding noisenik whose intense guitar drones would bug out even the calmest 10-year-old.
Psychotropical-ambient noise with tribal percussion, flashes of white noise and soft rings and tones that co-mingle to create an amazing cinematic and exotic sound-scape. This is Luciernaga.
Victor Villarreal is perhaps best known as the mastermind guitarist behind Cap'n Jazz - a band which has, in no small way, helped shape the evolution of indie rock. A Chicago native, Victor's high school band has influenced a shit-ton of bands, and channeled fist-pumping energy into just about every angsty emo/punk kid for the last decade. Post-Cap'n Jazz, Victor has played in amazing bands like Owls, Ghosts & Vodka, and most recently, Joan of Arc.
Victor Villarreal is widely considered to be one of the most inventive and cutting-edge guitarists of modern indie rock. His unique guitar style includes elements of classical, spanish, indie and even metal. Victor is in a world all his own. And unless a cantaloupe is involved, he is probably unaware of it. That is to say: Victor's intentions are ingenuous, and his art is pure.
Please join us for an intimate in-store with Victor and opening act Meryll.

"Much of the work of Jozef van Wissem is based on the application of mirror images to lute composition. The work is idiomatic to lute tablature of around AD 1600. Through study in New York City with Patrick O'Brien, he discovered that from the Middle Ages on, one of the variations on the cantus firmus (the given melody) is the backwards performance of the melody.
One critic has compared this work to that of German painter Georg Baselitz, who paints upside down. More recently his lute compositions consist of trance-inducing layered palindromes."
Join us this Mother's Day for an afternoon of experimental noise with San Francisco's Horaflora and some special guests. Here's what Aquarius Records had to say:
Bay Area sound artist Raub Roy goes by the name of Horaflora; and his performances are really impressive exercises in controlled electro-acoustic chaos, with low-tech electronics skittering above various tactile scrapes counterpointed by reversed currents of placid bass frequencies and tonal undulation. One of his best performance stunts is to fill up large balloons, shove a trumpet mouthpiece inside the balloon, and drop the metal mouthpiece on a large drumhead. With two of these devices going, Horaflora can generate prolonged vibration and acoustically phased drones that are really amazing.
This year RSD falls on Saturday, April 16th. As always, quantities are extremely limited, so be sure to get to the store bright and early! We are looking forward to this year's releases which (so far) include:
Join us as local Prog band Hume play a half electric, half acoustic show featuring guitar, upright bass, percussion, and electronics.
